As a previous college student still living in my college town in the heart of an urban city, known for its unique music, artistic individuality and creative inspiration, I pose the question, does a franchise, a coffee shop at that, Starbucks to be exact, belong in such a creative place? Doesn’t it get its business by replicating the same idea over and over again. Isn’t that what a franchise is? No original idea from those who buy a franchise, but the concept of Starbucks is pretty great.
I’m not going to lie, in Nashville there are just as many indie coffee shops as there are Starbucks, each packed with the usual crowd, college students, hipsters, business associates…laying down those $5 for some good Starbucks coffee. So now I don’t believe Starbucks is over-rated, after all my Christmas present was a cup and a bag full of whole bean coffee. Starbucks even ground it for free! As much as I enjoy the indie coffee shops and going to coffee hour even Monday at 6AM, no other barista has put it together quite like Starbucks.
Bring on the coffee, I’ll be drafting another disputable post.
