A day in the life of…

I am constantly amazed and inspired by stories of people just like you and me who take the initiative to change their lives and follow their dreams. Day 6 of the Suitcase Entrepreneur 30 Day Blog Challenge focuses on case studies of those who transitioned to living life on their own terms. I encourage you to read more and if you haven’t joined the challenge already it’s not too late! Today’s writing prompt is:

What are my three priorities for the next 30 days that will move me closer towards living life on my own terms?

  1. Get to work! I would like my business to be solely online, a virtual resource accessible to anyone,Take Ownership anywhere. That being said over the next 30 days I need to work on writing a business plan, identifying the services I want to focus on and completing my website. I must admit I’ve struggled a bit with what services I would like to offer. Obviously I love social media marketing and defining a plan for content marketing. My strengths lie in planning and time-management, however I want to pass on what I have learned and empower my clients to reach their goals.
  2. Challenge myself! I think my biggest competition is myself and through the 30 Day Blog Challenge I have set a goal to write every single day for 30 days. This is a huge goal for me because when I first started my blog I did not have a focus, I wrote every month or so and this year I made a resolution to blog more. (It’s working!) I’m also challenging myself to run a half-marathon before the end of the year since fitness energizes me and helps me stay motivated. I’m not a runner by any means but I think discipline and training will help in other areas of life.
  3. Test it out! What I need to do next is plan an international trip, it’s time to go, my traveling feet are itching and I’m ready to explore. I’m working towards spending two weeks in New Zealand in Winter 2014, hoping from spot to stop every couple of days, meeting new friends and enjoying an indescribable experience. I plan to blog often and keep my virtual business with me along the way.
Writing these priorities out and sharing them makes my goals a reality. Now that I’ve shared with the world now I have to focus on these dreams and make them a reality.

30 day challenge

One of the many pursuits in life, besides the American Dream of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is self-fulfillment. Even growing up I already knew I did not support the traditional dreams of a young woman, that is, going to college, meeting the One and having a house full of babies by the time I turned 30 (although there is still plenty of time for that!).

Being a workaholic was a given, having always wanted to work I found it was something I enjoyed, besides if you love something why stop doing it? Now as an innovator who runs off the beaten track I have new goals of not only working in a corporate situation but also focusing on freelance projects. In that note I’ve calmed down and stepped away from additional part-time jobs to spend time building a client base. My self-fulfillment comes from helping others get their projects off the ground and running, much like a kite, and I’m the wind. If you have any projects that need wind, email me.

Otherwise let me know how you find self-fulfillment?

Songwriting is a beautiful art sometimes lost in the mass of consumerism. This week I was able to listen to one of my best friends (who is a musician at heart) play some fragments of new songs. There is nothing that makes me feel the way music makes me feel. I feel compelled to create, to innovate, to add beauty to life, to talk a walk in nature, to write words of comfort, inspiration and meaning, to search for deeper truths and expose hidden meanings. It makes me want to stay, to find the meaning of life, understand knowledge and why we crave more.

Let’s face it, we were born to create, to find new ways to explain, explore and connect. Forward progress and the desire to succeed and live against all costs is what makes us human. The best way to start moving forward in our achievements is to start, take the huge step forward into the vast unknown and making it happen. Sure we will all trip up and make mistakes, but that’s just apart of the learning process, we have to keep going no matter what, because the journey to success is beautiful.

I am an individual who thrives on challenges and am very results oriented. However the best part of being results oriented is striving to reach a goal. Once the goal has been achieved and the challenge is over I tend to lose interest and look forward to the next challenge, even though it may be hard and scary.

The strains of indie music keep me burning to create. What music keeps you going? Share your favorites.

There’s always something new to find in the forest. This week’s adventures took  me to Percy Warner Park. The trail took us on a 2.5 mile hike up into the woods and down again to flat lands. It was quiet and beautiful, an inspiring escape from the hustle and bustle of the city (although I love the city).

The best view of all was the Nashville skyline. Coming around a bend in a road and climbing a hill, we were able to see the perfect view. It was like a curtain in the forest folded back, showing us we were not so far from civilization after all.

Now I’m no philosopher but as of late I’d noticed the way I’d been going through the motions with my life. Get up, work out, go to work, get off, eat, sleep and do it again. It appeared I’d lost sight of my goals (I know how awful!) and I wasn’t moving forward mentally! My pause and reflex moment came when one disastrous mistake led to another and I woke up fast!

They key is my brain is used to growth and development, without the caring institute of college (or shall we say the enforcement of learning for fear of an F) it’s easy to settle. I plan to run the world one day (figuratively for now but that could change) and my studying has begun. Currently I am developing a book list of inspiring, motivational and debatable topics starting with:

20 Something 20 Everything by Christine Hassler (inspiring)
How Successful People Think by John Maxwell (motivational)
Excuse me, your life is Waiting by Lynn Granhorn (debatable)

More research, recommendation and coffee is always needed but for now it’s a good start! See you on the career path!
