A great point Natalie brings out in her video “3 Main Ways to Make Money Online” is that a location independent entrepreneur should have several sources of revenue. Today’s prompt is:

What are the key ways in which you want to make money online in your chosen business OR Which are the key online revenue streams you want to focus on in your existing business?

This video was a great eye opener for me. As a freelancer most of my work is actionable, which means I have to be hands on and completely focused on a project for the 3-4 hours I freelance every day. Now this does not exactly provide me with the means to hit the road, travel to exotic locations and not have to worry about streams of income going up or down. However as a past musician and current author I completely understand the benefits of royalties.

I remember the months spent songwriting and jamming with the band, pulling together the perfect combination of music and lyrics. Once recorded we were able to sit back, slap hi-fives and begin the process of marketing and promotion. Even now years later I still hear from old fans reminiscing about the days of the band. Will be the band ever get back together? Who knows, but the album is still for sale and can be downloaded via any digital distribution source which is a plus.

Book publishing works the same way and ideally I would like to complete my five novel fantasy series. They will most likely be published under a pen name which will include initials, since those kinds of authors tend to do well. I mean look at J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, J.K. Rowling and George R.R. Martin. Sign me up!

I love being hands on, I enjoy working with clients and spending time putting together a strategic plan for a project. I love social media and networking, meeting other like-minded individuals and having the opportunity to inspire and encourage. I’m all about that! The key revenue streams I would like to focus on are:

  1. Find a way to have a constant stream of income while doing all the hard work up front and reaping the benefits later.
  2. Work hands on with clients whether it’s social media marketing, training, coaching or freelance writing.

What are the top ways you’d like to see revenue come in?

Although the movement is gone, rock ‘n roll is still with us…

pirate radioWrapping up yet another productive evening watching “Pirate Radio” with Hap & Harry’s by my side. The music in this movie is what really gets me. Although I was not alive during the era of rock and roll, I can still feel through the treads of the moment, the spirit is still alive, sweeping through the 21st century. Even though we have moved on to other tunes and sing other songs, that feeling of rebellion, release and living on the edge is still there. It takes me back to my high-school days shredding it on my electric blue Schecter with the sounds of the full band encompassing all. It takes me back to college, sitting in music business class listening to tracks that went back as far as the beginning of recorded sound, when real talent was king.

Music sings a tune in my life quite unlike any other, even those moments of silence must be punctuated with sound.

What are some of your favorite good vibrations?

The thing about music, the reason it captivates us and pulls us over the brink of no return is because of those songs that truly get you. As with any romantic relationship there is no way to fully explain the way the one you love makes you feel, so it is with music. In particular one brilliant artist will write and release a song that holds my very being captive. The way the lyrics flow and the music blends together moves me. The rhythm thudding deep within my soul, the wail of the guitar telling its story, the music sways as I sway, understands my underlying emotions, holds me close, makes me dance, pushes me onward to new horizons, it “gets” me.

I listen to music all the time, writing, reading, driving, partying but the music I tend to love the most is when I’m in my car driving. Music Loud. Windows down.

Links to a few of the songs I’ve been listening to recently are listed below. I’d love to hear what yours are too, feel free to comment with links to your favorites.

Music best listened to through the loud speakers

Songwriting is a beautiful art sometimes lost in the mass of consumerism. This week I was able to listen to one of my best friends (who is a musician at heart) play some fragments of new songs. There is nothing that makes me feel the way music makes me feel. I feel compelled to create, to innovate, to add beauty to life, to talk a walk in nature, to write words of comfort, inspiration and meaning, to search for deeper truths and expose hidden meanings. It makes me want to stay, to find the meaning of life, understand knowledge and why we crave more.

Let’s face it, we were born to create, to find new ways to explain, explore and connect. Forward progress and the desire to succeed and live against all costs is what makes us human. The best way to start moving forward in our achievements is to start, take the huge step forward into the vast unknown and making it happen. Sure we will all trip up and make mistakes, but that’s just apart of the learning process, we have to keep going no matter what, because the journey to success is beautiful.

I am an individual who thrives on challenges and am very results oriented. However the best part of being results oriented is striving to reach a goal. Once the goal has been achieved and the challenge is over I tend to lose interest and look forward to the next challenge, even though it may be hard and scary.

The strains of indie music keep me burning to create. What music keeps you going? Share your favorites.

Words. So many have already written about the power words hold, the ability to shape the future, change a life, start a war, stop an argument, bring together lovers, tear apart families. Words. Something as simple as words. But I digress, enough people have written about words and the knowledge they hold.

What I want from words is the power to make someone feel the way I feel. Take today for example, it was a great day, a good day. I woke from dreaming my car had been towed in my cozy red bed, the red bed no one ever wants to leave. It was rough to force myself to stumble out, red eyed and weary…I’ve had 3 nights of lost sleep, 3 nights that were totally worth it. I went to coffee hour at 6am and was only 20 minutes late…only. Then I drove to work with my music loud, thudding through the speakers of my favorite toy, the car I impulsively bought myself just because.

Nothing makes me feel the way music does, the uplifting of my soul, the beat loud, infiltrating my very being. I wish I had the words to describe the way it feels, like nothing will ever go wrong again and even if it does its okay because the music, the combination of song and strings and the beat of the drums and the hum of the bass will keep me soaring. I can’t explain the way it makes me feel, as if I will always be happy in that perfect moment, when I am on the peak, at the brink and I will never fall down again…words are powerful but sometimes they are not enough.
